A naginata naoshi refers to a Naginata that has been reshaped and remounted to become a katana or wakizashi. The Naginata were originally used by the samurai, sohei, and onna bugeisha of feudal Japan. <\/p>\n
This folded steel naginata wakizashi from Shadow Dancer was not reshaped from a naginata, but deliberately made as is. The naginata zukuri blade is forged from folded steel, differentially hardened, clay tempered, and hand polished to reveal the beautiful jihada and gunome (waves) hamon. The blade secured to the hilt using a mekugi also features a bohi to reduce the overall weight of the sword while improving its point of balance.<\/p>\n
This unique wakizashi comes equipped with an iron mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba with the remaining koshirae made of brass (this includes the fuchi, kashira, menuki, seppa, and habaki). The Haichi style tsuka is covered in white genuine samegawa and wrapped with artificial silk ito. <\/p>\n
The handle includes hishigami, small folded paper triangles placed under the tsuka-maki wrap to uphold its shape and provide a firmer grip.<\/p>\n
