Like its longer peer, this wakizashi\u2019s blade also has a sanmai structure using hand forged and folded 1060 high carbon steel for the body and the harder 1095 high carbon steel for the edge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Besides resulting in an elegant notare hamon, the clay tempering and water quenching process results in a blade hardness of 35 HRC for the body and 60 HRC for the edge. This means that the unokubi zukuri (cormorant\u2019s neck) blade is flexible and has great edge retention, making it a great option for higher end sword collectors and practitioners. The addition of the bohi on the blade also helps to decrease the sword\u2019s overall weight, improve its point of balance, and amplifies the sound of the wind (tachikaze). This exquisite blade is then hand polished with excellent hada.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Matching its katana counterpart, this wakizashi is equipped with a mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba; silver seppa, menuki, and habaki; along with brass fuchi and kashira with a flower motif. Two mekugi secures the blade\u2019s tang to the rikko (hourglass) tsuka for added stability . The handle is then covered with genuine black same held in place with tight hinerimaki using golden brown silk tsuka ito.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Completing the wakizashi is a matte dark brown saya with flower inlay.
