Made from folded steel, this tanto is a beautiful but rare piece from Z-Sey due to its uncommonly shaped osoraku zukuri blade that has a large kissaki (blade tip). This shape goes back to Shimada Sukemune, a smith who engraved “osoraku” on the blade. <\/p>\n
Featuring a bohi (groove) with soe bi \/ kakinagashi (secondary narrow groove following the main one tapering to a pointed end halfway down the tang), the clay tempering process also results in a gunome (regular waves) hamon (temper line) that becomes more visible due to its Sashikomi (traditional) A+ polish. <\/p>\n
Mounted in the Hamidashi style, the tanto comes with a maru gata (circular) iron tsuba (guard; blackened brass fuchi (hilt collar), kashira (pommel cap), and menuki (decorative ornament), and copper seppa (washer) and Yuko style habaki (blade collar). The handmade Haichi style tsuka (handle) is wrapped in large emperor node white same (rayskin) and high quality black hishigami, held in place with silk ito (handle wrap) from Japan. <\/p>\n
This tanto comes sheathed in a black oil lacquered saya (scabbard) with horn koiguchi (mouth of saya), kurigata (knob for sageo), and kojiri (scabbard end cap). It can be secured to one’s belt with the black sageo.<\/p>\n
