The term “Handachi” refers to the transitional form or style between tachi and katana which was mostly popular between the late 16th to late 17th centuries. Meanwhile, the term “muji” means plain or unfigured, referring to the grain of a blade being very small or tight, making it hard to discern. <\/p>\n
The Muji Handachi’s shinogi zukuri (curved with yokote and shinogi close to the mune) blade is forged from folded steel (1060 high carbon and T8 steel) and clay tempered to reveal a classical suguha (relatively straight) hamon. <\/p>\n
Besides being equipped with an iron mokko gata (lobed shape) tsuba, this handachi’s koshirae also include premium brass fuchi, kashira, menuki, seppa, and habaki. One mekugi secures the blade to the wooden Haichi style tsuka covered in white real samegawa and wrapped with artificial silk ito.
